Declan Rice reaffirms commitment to West Ham
Declan Rice has been regularly linked with a transfer to a 'big six' Premier League side, while he has reportedly stalled over signing a new West Ham contract; however, midfielder says he 'loves playing for this team' and for David Moyes

Re: Declan Rice reaffirms commitment to West Ham
It seems acceptable for ‘pundits’ to attempt to influence Rice’s value in the transfer market. I’ve heard Neville, Souness and Keane downplay his potential transfer value with critical comments about Rice’s perceived limitations, at the same time as seeing Rice as a must have transfer

It’s strange, as I’ve never heard anyone criticise Phillips? It’s not like West Ham have put him in the shop window either. Not only could you level exactly the same criticism of Rice at Phillips, like he doesn’t get forward enough, or he’s not creative enough, Rice’s performances in the last few games make that a nonsense anyway, the goal against Zagreb, the killer run and pass for Antonio’s winner at Leeds being two examples.

I hope Moyes sees through all of this and we do the right thing. Either let him go for his true value, or keep him and carry on building a creditable top half squad.

Let’s hope we don’t replace him with McKennie as mooted in the press. He’s utter gash.

He'd have been gone this summer if it wasn't for covid.

The kid's ambitious. He'll be playing for one of the big boys next summer.

The good news is, it appears we'll be rewarded handsomely if recently reported figures are to be believed.

Even if he wanted to stay.

The owners wont be turning down 100 million.

Moyes values him at more but if they see a number like that they wont be saying no.

Re: Declan Rice reaffirms commitment to West Ham
I think he can be trusted to put a shift in as long as he is contracted to play for us. As he will still be quite young when his contract is up, it is not beyond belief that he is happy to earn 60k a week for now, and is waiting to see how things go over the next couple of years before tieing himself down on another longer contract. If I was his dad, I may well advbise him to do just that, and keep his options open.

It's down to GSB to do their bit backing Moyes and his crew to make sure our progress continues, and if they are unable to do so, they should look to sell to owners that are.

If we maintain our progress on the pitch and in our recruitment, I wouldn't be surprised to see him sign a new bumper package contract. If the wheels begin to fall off this progress bus, I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave.

With my C&B tints on, I think he might be a fan.
The passion he shows and he’s clearly happy here.
At Leeds when “Moyes C&B army” was sung at the end, he was throwing his arms up to sing it louder.

Re: Declan Rice reaffirms commitment to West Ham
Rice will only leave when someone bids an amount we're happy with. It's not HIS decision when he leaves beyond deciding to not sign a new contract.

The Summer he goes into the point where he has 2 years of his contract left is my guess...the best trade off with his time and performances versus getting good value for the player.

He has to decide of course if he's happy to sit on 60k until then instead of say 140k per week he could be picking up from us.

The only people who are loyal to the club are the fans who go to the games.

Very sensibly, Rice is just making the right noises, the fans want to hear.

He will leave when he wants.

Re: Declan Rice reaffirms commitment to West Ham
He wasn’t loyal at international level, and he’s not a West Ham fan, so I reckon this is probably his last season. Only thing that could work in our favour is the timing of the World Cup - as he’s a guaranteed starter with us.

I just hope when he leaves that he does it the right way and is welcomed back warmly when he does return. Be a shame if he becomes an Ince/Defoe/Lampard

Re: Declan Rice reaffirms commitment to West Ham
If he wants to stay then he will need to sign a new contract next summer, as he will be down down to just 2 years left.

Nothing there that convinces me he will not leave. If we win something then I think he may stay.
Thanks Ted

Yes, he loves the club, and so he should. But he'll be off in the summer unless by some miracle we qualify for the CL.

Re: Declan Rice reaffirms commitment to West Ham
I'd love him to be as loyal to us as Le Tissier was to Southampton, a smaller club.

I'd be very pleasantly surprised.

I'd be even more pleasantly surprised if we actually grew as a club to the extent that we matched any ambition he might have.

Re: Declan Rice reaffirms commitment to West Ham
Rice is a phenomenal player and character and he will continue to improve. There will come a time in the near future when he will have to move to play regularly at the very highest level. I think we all know that deep down.

Right now we need to enjoy watching him play for us, hopefully win something with us and ultimately make sure that we get as much money for him as possible when he does leave, with a plan in place to help us continue the incredible progress we’ve made over the last 18 months.

Re: Declan Rice reaffirms commitment to West Ham
Nice piece but means fuck all really, of course he is committed but he is also ambitious.

Unless we can win a Cup and/or qualify for the CL next season he will be off and can’t blame him, and even if we do win something and get CL, it will still be 50/50, what young player, and amongst the best of his generation wont want the chance to play for the biggest clubs? Like Villa fans with Grealish, no bad feeling about it, he served them well and ONLY went when the club got a decent wedge and he got the opportunity to join the best squad in Europe.

VH

I’ve been thinking the same thing. He keeps mentioning how much he loves playing here, and also always mentions how much he loves playing for Moyes.

I wonder if he’s calling out the owners to back him fully, as one of his conditions of signing a new contract.

As long as we keep improving, especially if we could finish top four, or better still, win the Europa, I’m sure he’ll sign.

Re: Declan Rice reaffirms commitment to West Ham
Think Rice's reluctance to sign a new contract is more 'can I trust the owners' honesty and commitment' than I don't want to be at WHU.
